
Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji has officially joined the cast of the upcoming BBC drama Wahala. The six‑part series adaptation from Nikki May’s bestselling novel will air globally. This drama marks her long-awaited return to acting after an eight-year absence from the screen.
The drama follows four Nigerian British women as they navigate friendship, ambition, and betrayal in London. Genevieve Nnaji’s addition brings Nollywood royalty to an already impressive ensemble that includes Adelayo Adedayo, Cush Jumbo, Susan Wokoma, and Deborah Ayorinde.
Genevieve Nnaji, whose last appearance was in Lionheart (2018), expressed her excitement about the project:
I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story, and I’m excited to be a part of it.
Nikki May’s Wahala, a debut novel, explores themes of friendship, ambition, culture, and betrayal. The Novel has been well received for its witty, contemporary, and sharply observed portrayal of women’s lives and relationships. The series promises to blend sharp social commentary with gripping drama, spotlighting the Nigerian diaspora experience.
Wahala is executive produced by Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC, Elizabeth Kilgarriff and Craig Holleworth for Firebird Pictures and Theresa Ikoko. The directors are Leonora Lonsdale, Theresa Ikoko and Remi Weekes and the producer is Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto.
