
Nearly two decades after the Yoruba classic Omotara Johnson was released, Bukky Wright has announced that The Return of Omotara Johnson, will officially premiere in July. This will mark Bukky Wright’s return to the producers’ chair, as her last major self-produced movie was the Yoruba drama titled Ale Eru Jeje (2017).
Omotara Johnson, released in 2008, quickly became a Yoruba film classic. The story followed a woman whose ambition and choices led to betrayal, heartbreak, and vengeance. This Sequel revisits Omotara’s story, exploring how her past choices continue to shape her future.
Bukky Wright portrayal of the titular character was widely praised for its emotional depth and authenticity, making it a cultural touchstone in Nollywood golden era.
The film is produced by Bukky Wright in collaboration with Bossteewo, directed by Adeoluwa Owu, and distributed by Nile Entertainment. Bukky Wright has described the project as her biggest yet, with production taking place partly in the UK and Nigeria.
The cast of The Return of Omotara Johnson includes Bukky Wright, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Shaffy Bello, Toyin Abraham, Ali Nuhu, and Chidi Mokeme. The initial soundtrack of Omotara Johnson was written by Tope Alabi, but the Return of Omotara Johnson features contemporary artist Ojayy Wright alongside legendary gospel singer Tope Alabi.
Ahead of its release, Bukky wright reintroduced Omotara Johnson on her official YouTube channel. This allows people to refresh their memory of the original while preparing for the sequel.
The settings and overall production of Omotara Johnson and its sequel, The Return of Omotara Johnson, highlight how far Nollywood has come. While the original film was rooted in the Yoruba home-video era, the new release embraces modern cinematography, international locations, and higher production values.
