This August, history comes to life with the release of King Kosoko: The Battle of Lagos, a historical biopic directed by Femi Adebayo. The film delves into the rain and resistance of Oba Kosoko of Lagos, exploring themes such as power, political rivalry, betrayal, loyalty, and cultural heritage.
The movie explores the life, reign, and turbulent era of King Kosoko, one of the most prominent Obas of Lagos State. Known for his fierce resistance to British colonial intervention, naval clashes along the Lagos lagoon, and complex politics. The film features a star-studded cast including Odunlade Adekola, Femi Adebayo, Jide Kosoko, Gabriel Afolayan, Femi Branch, Dele Odule, Taiwo Hassan, Yinka Quadri, Debo Adebayo, Shola Kosoko, Tina Mba, and Fathia Williams.
The primary shooting of King Kosoko occurred at Isale Eko, with a secondary location at Epe and along the coastal areas of the Lagos Lagoon, which played a crucial role in the film’s story. Directed by Adebayo Tijani, the film is set in mid-19th century West Africa, specifically between the 1840s and 1850s, during the pre-colonial era.
