The official trailer for The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, originally published in 2010 by Nigerian poet Lola Shoneyin, was released earlier today. The work, adapted into a screenplay by Adze Ugah and produced by EbonyLife Films in collaboration with Genesis Group, Nile Group, and Silverbird, is coming to cinemas in December.
Set in modern-day Ibadan, the story of Baba Segi follows a prosperous yet unsophisticated man who defines his masculinity by his wealth and the number of children he has. He is married to four wives: Iya Segi, Iya Tope, Iya Femi, and Bolanle, who is university-educated, along with their seven children. His wives are keeping a secret that could not only disrupt his household but also undermine his sense of manhood.
The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s wives explores themes of polygamy, female agency, and family dynamics in Nigeria
Directed by Daniel Oriahi, the movie will feature a star-studded cast including Odunlade Adekola who plays the polygamist Baba Segi, Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe, Bimbo Ademoye, Shaffy Bello, Bolaji Ogunmola and Omowunmi Dada.
The Official Trailer was released today by the CEO of Ebonylife Group, Mo Abudu, to give audiences what to expect against its global release on December 4, 2026.
