Abba T. Makama is known for his distinct, unconventional storytelling style in films such as Green White Green, The Lost Okoroshi, and Juju Stories. His work has premiered at TIFF, BFI London, and Locarno, and has been featured in outlets like Variety, IndieWire, and The New York Times.
Silence is Loud follows Henrietta, a passionate literature teacher and single mother, who begins to notice a troubling change in her student, Ayo—withdrawn, increasingly silent, and struggling academically. As rumours spread that Ayo has contracted HIV, she becomes the target of bullying at school, rejection at home, and isolation from her community.
In the midst of it all, she finds quiet refuge with Henrietta, who is navigating her own battles with stigma and workplace hostility. What begins as a shared experience of pain gradually evolves into a powerful bond—rooted in courage, resilience, and a refusal to stay silent.
The film explores themes of bullying, stigma, sex education, and reproductive rights with honesty and emotional depth. It stars Sapphire Ekeng, Uzoamaka Power, Ozzy Agu, and Judith Audu.
With Silence is Loud, he takes a more minimalist and restrained approach, delivering a deeply character-driven story that stands as one of his most emotionally resonant works to date.
Abba T. Makama’s Silence is Loud premieres on Zikoko’s Youtube channel on April 15, 2026.
