The official trailer of Damilola Orimogunje’s Dear Ajayi has been released. Dear Ajayi is a feature film directed and written by the acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Damilola Orimogunje, who is best known for Maria Ebun Pataki. The film is set in southwestern Nigeria during the 1990s and was produced under Orimogunje’s film banner in collaboration with Mayana Films, Zynox Production, and Depth & Optics Productions.
Dear Ajayi, filmed primarily in Ibadan, focuses on the lives of two estranged sisters, Ade and Titi Ajayi. Their very different lives converge when they are compelled to return to the same household to care for their paralyzed mother. As they navigate living together, the sisters must confront their unresolved family issues, cope with loss, explore their faith, and deal with love and ambition, all while managing the complex societal expectations placed on women.
The cast features Bimbo Akintola and Tosin Adeyemi in the lead roles, along with Williams Benson and Uzoamaka Power. Additionally, the film includes veteran Nigerian actors such as Lanre Hassan, Antar Laniyan, Idowu Phillips, Michelle Dede, Chioma Omeruah, Kalu Ikeagwu, Tope Tedela, and Baaj Adebule.
According to What Kept Me Up Dear Ajayi‘s dialogue spans across English, Yoruba, French, and Igbo. Following an eight-year development journey that included support from the Hubert Bals Fund and the World Cinema Fund, Dear Ajayi made history as the first Nigerian production selected for the competitive Giornate degli Autori section at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
