The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) is taking action to prevent the premiere and press call of the feature film Living in Colors due to allegations of explicit and illegal content. This follows a preliminary investigation into the movie’s promotional trailers circulating across digital platforms, which the Board claims depict explicit pornography and promote same-sex relationships.

Its primary purpose is to classify, monitor, and regulate film and video works distributed or exhibited across the country, ensuring they adhere to national standards, laws, and cultural values. Recently, the NFVCB issued a warning to content creators, media platforms, and digital distributors, advising them against facilitating the distribution of a film ahead of its scheduled digital release.
According to official statements issued by the Board, the film directed by Tega Idogho was never submitted, vetted, or classified by regulatory authorities prior to its public marketing. Under existing federal guidelines, particularly section 33, the exhibition, distribution, or promotion of unclassified film content within Nigeria constitutes a direct violation of the NFVCB Act.
According to Nollywoodtimes, beyond shutting down the physical premiere, the Board confirmed that legal proceedings are being initiated against Prism House Studio alongside individual producers and promoters involved in the project. Authorities cited both the NFVCB Act and the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, noting that public distribution of legally prohibited or unapproved media content carries severe criminal penalties. To ensure full compliance, the NFVCB is collaborating with federal and state security agencies to halt the planned theatrical event in Lagos.
Additionally, the regulatory body has issued direct warnings to cinema operators and venue managers connected to the event, clarifying that hosting unclassified productions will result in immediate facility closure and the revocation of operational licenses.
