
Happy New Month, Nollywood Family. April served us with several Nollywood delicacies, but the month has come to an end, and we are now in May, which brings a stacked Nollywood slate.
This May expect drama! Below are movies that extend from historical epics, comedy, rom-coms, heist thriller and a Netflix pick.
Segilola: The Villain – May 1
Segilola is a Yoruba-language drama driven by suspense, betrayal and cultural depth. The story follows a ruthless and wealthy woman who harbours a petty personal grudge against a powerful stranger, her obsession to destroy him caused her to launch of destruction that unravels the peace of the entire village.
The ensemble cast includes heavyweight Yoruba actors such as Odunlade Adekola, Bimbo Akintola, Ibrahim Chatta, Fausat Balogun, Antar Laniyan, Peter Fatomilola, and Faithia Balogun Williams.
The film will be released in cinemas nationwide on May 1, 2026.
Efunroye: The Unicorn – May 1
Produced by Nollywood actress Faithia Williams with Niyi Akinmolayan, this historical epic is inspired by Efunroye Tinubu’s life. The film depicts the rise of Madam Tinubu from a humble trader near Abeokuta to a dominant political and economic force in pre-colonial Lagos.
Starring Faithia Williams, Odunlade Adekola, Saidi Balogun, Mercy Aigbe, and Femi Adebayo. Efunroye: The Unicorn, produced by Abiodun Olanrewaju, Adebayo Tijani, and Tope Adebayo, will be distributed by FilmOne.
This Movie will be available in cinemas nationwide from May 1, 2026.
Gingerrrr – May 8
This high energy heist thriller follows four childhood friends who reunite under extraordinary circumstances and plan a daring heist to change their lives. The plot of the movie centers on a box of Gold which ensuing chaos as various different factions attempt to claim.
Starring Bisola Aiyeola, Bukunmi Adeaga-IIori (kiekie), Wumi Toriola, Bolaji Ogunmola, Timini Egbuson, Odunlade Adekola, and Lateef Adedimeji.
Gingerrrr will start streaming on Netflix and Kava from May 8, 2026.
Call of My Life – May 15
A Nollywood romantic comedy about a Call-centre agent who after a bad breakup finds unexpected romance during a routine call and must decide whether to risk her heart again.
Directed by Dammy twitch Call of My Life features Uzoamaka Power, Zubby Michael, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, and Broda Shaggi.
This movie is scheduled for a nationwide cinema release on May 15, 2026.
Strong – May 15
Dimbo and Karachi Atiya Strong is a film that probes faith, doubt, and what it means to stand by someone when the world has already judged them. The story follows Lami whose marriage is tested when her husband is accused of infidelity and murder.
Starring Sophie Alakija, Chris Okagbue, Fae Olumide, Nora Igho, Edward Fom, and Eva Ibiam. This Suspense drama is a sequel to Dimbo and Karachi Atiya’s 2019 film Drawing Strength.
Strong is set for a nationwide cinema release on May 15, 2026.
The Boy Who Gave – May 15
The Boy Who Gave is Allison Precious Emmanuel’s first feature film to be distributed by Nile Entertainment. It follows the Narrative of a teenage brother who, after losing their parents sacrifices his dreams to provide for his siblings.
The Boy Who Gave, which is an intimate drama about duty, poverty, and resilience, features Allison Precious Emmanuel, Abbey Delight Dagogo, Hart Andrew, Tina Mba, and Blossom Chukwujekwu.
This movie is scheduled for a nationwide cinema release on May 15, 2026.
Okanjuwa – May 22
The film, which translates to greed, is a comedy-packed drama directed by Zulumoke Oyinbo. The narrative follows a large family celebration that unravels into chaotic revelations and focuses on themes of ambition, survival, and relationships within the chaotic and vibrant settings of Lagos.
The film features a stellar cast, including Kunle Remi, Uzor Arukwe, Tomike Adeoye, Omowunmi Dada, and Femi Adebayo.
Okanjuwa is coming to cinema’s Nationwide this May 22, 2026.
Kolero (Beyond the Line) – May 29
Kolero is a drama thriller about power, secrecy and the fallout when the elite cross moral lines, in this film loyalties are tested and consequences spiral beyond control.
The cast of Kolero include Bimbo Akintola, Tina Mba, Jide Kosoko, Bolanle Ninalowo, Jumoke Odetola, and Olumide Oworu.
The film will be released in cinemas nationwide on May 29, 2026.
