
Alahun: The Weaver, an Upcoming Nollywood movie directed by Dare Olaitan and produced by acclaimed filmmaker Kayode Kasum, is scheduled for release in August. The movie explores themes of manhood, bravery, and the subversion of traditional gender expectations.
Alahun: The Weaver centers around a young protagonist who faces ridicule in a society with rigid ideas of masculinity, where he is told that real men don’t weave baskets or plait hair. Defying societal norms, he embarks on an extraordinary journey across mystical worlds to save his kingdom.
The film features an ensemble cast composed of some of the biggest names in the Nigerian film industry, blending veteran actors with contemporary stars: Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Chatta, Lateef Adedimeji, Moshood Fattah Kunle Remi, Omowunmi Dada, Faithia Williams, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Tope Tedela, and Peter Fatomilola. The movie will be distributed by Genesis Pictures.
By being centered on weaving a traditional Yoruba craft, the film underscores the importance of preserving heritage while adapting to modern realities. It reflects Nollywood’s ambition to tell stories that are globally competitive yet deeply rooted in local culture.
