Nearly a decade after Before 30 captured the realities of modern womanhood in Lagos, the story continues. After 30, a follow-up film featuring the original cast, is set to premiere at the 2025 NollywoodWeek Film Festival in Paris this May.
The film reunites Damilola Adegbite, Beverly Naya, Meg Otanwa, and Anee Icha as four women navigating the messy, beautiful, and sometimes brutal terrain of life in their thirties. Directed by Omorinsojo Spaine and co-written by Spaine, Bibi Ukpo, and BB Sasore, After 30 picks up where the 2015 drama series left off—only now, the race to get married before the big 3-0 is over. After 30 shifts attention to life beyond that milestone, and there are more challenges: career shifts, motherhood, changing friendships, and redefining what success actually looks like.
Set in Lagos, the story remains rooted in familiar terrain but takes a deeper dive into the internal journeys of its characters. There are no dramatic overhauls or forced reinventions, just four women facing the consequences and possibilities of choices made and paths taken.
The premiere will take place at Cinéma L’Arlequin between 7 and 11 May, as part of the festival’s twelfth edition. NollywoodWeek Paris continues to be a vital platform for showcasing Nigerian storytelling to international audiences, and After 30 fits neatly into its mission.
Plot details have not yet been fully revealed but the trailer gives a brief glimpse to what should be expected. However, the return of the original cast and a continued focus on contemporary Nigerian womanhood suggest that After 30 will carry forward the spirit of the original while opening up space for new conversations.
After 30, will premiere on Prime Video, May 9, 2025.
