NollywoodWeek: Here are the 2025 Official Festival Selections

Paris will once again play host to the NollywoodWeek Film Festival, returning for its 12th edition from May 7 to 11, 2025, at Cinéma l’Arlequin. This year, Nigerian films are leading the charge with a dynamic and diverse lineup across genres and formats.

Organized by Okada Media, the festival has grown into one of the most influential platforms for showcasing Nigerian and African storytelling on the global stage. With over 20 films, including features, shorts, TV series, and animation, NollywoodWeek 2025 offers a deep dive into the creativity shaping today’s Nollywood.

Strong Nigerian Films Showing Across Categories

Nigerian films are well-represented this year, with a diverse range of films covering drama, romance, comedy, and social commentary.

Short Films

All short films will be showing on the 8th of May.

Ekún Ìyàwó: A Tale of a Runaway Bride
This short film, written and directed by Moses Ipadeola, explores the fate of a diabolical Balogun, determined by the bridal tears of his latest bride during her Ekún Ìyàwó ceremony.

Obodo Oyibo
A narrative about Tokunbo and Ose, who emigrate to the United States seeking a better life, only to face unforeseen challenges. Directed by Adenike Adebayo-Esho.

Screen Test
Directed by Edith Nwekenta, this film follows David, who receives a life-changing phone call about being cast in the biggest film of his career. Featuring Tope Tedela, and Philip Asaya.

Feature-length Films

After 30
Screening on 8th May, After 30 is a romantic comedy about four Nigerian women navigating life, love, and societal expectations in their 30s. Directed by Omorinsojo Spaine and featuring Damilola Adegbite, Beverly Naya, Meg Otanwa, and Anee Icha.

For Amina
A young girl’s fight for education in a broken system. A social drama directed by Lyndsey F. Efejuku. Will be screening on the 11th of May.

Blackout
A psychological thriller about a woman who wakes up in a life she doesn’t recognize. Directed by Okechukwu Oku. Screening on the 8th of May.

Out in the Darkness
A raw, emotional look at postpartum depression and the stigma around maternal mental health in Nigeria. Screening on the 10th of May, the film is directed by Sarah Kwaji, featuring Kehinde Bankole and Deyemi Okanlawon.

Soft Love
A romantic comedy featuring a South African love guru and a Nigerian photographer, both struggling with heartbreak. Directed by Holmes Okechukwu Awa, it will be screened on the 10th of May.

The Fire and the Moth
A crime drama where a stolen Ife bronze head sparks chaos in western Nigeria. Directed by Taiwo Egunjobi.

The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos
An Afro-futurist thriller about resistance, survival, and community. Co-directed by a collective of emerging Nigerian filmmakers.

The Night of June 7th
Scheduled for 8th May, The Night of June 7th is based on the real-life Apo Six killings, this drama explores police brutality and injustice. Directed by Toka McBaror, written by Linda Ikeji.

The Weekend
A suspenseful family thriller where a woman discovers shocking secrets during a visit to her fiancé’s relatives. Directed by Daniel Oriahi. Slated to screen on the 10th of May.

Trade by Bata
A cultural body-swap comedy-drama where a spoiled Nigerian-American woman finds herself in the shoes of a village girl. Will screen at the festival on 10th May, the film is directed by Biodun Stephen.
