Issakaba Returns directed by Nigerian filmmaker Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, captures a society grappling with crime, where institutional protection felt distant and justice was forged in the heat of local vigilante action.
Issakaba is Bakassi spelled backwards. The first installment was written and produced in 2001 by Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen. Over two decades after the iconic 2000 cult classic redefined action cinema in Nollywood, the legendary vigilante group is officially making its long-awaited comeback.
The upcoming instalment bridges the gap between old-school Nollywood and modern cinema. Returning veterans like Chiwetalu Agu and Charles Okafor share the screen with a powerful ensemble including Chidi Mokeme, Iyabo Ojo, Itele the Icon, Nosa Rex, Regina Daniels, Alex Usifo, and Phyna.
As the theatrical release approaches, Issakaba stands as a pivotal moment for Nigerian cinema—the return of veteran actor Sam Dede as Ebube. Dede’s commanding screen presence, booming voice, and stoic authority gave the original film its heart. Seeing him reprise the role after decades, makes it feel familiar for Nollywood lovers
While the original relied heavily on raw storytelling and practical effects, the new project is expected to elevate those elements with modern production design, cinematography, and sophisticated choreography.
Issakaba Returns is set for cinemas nationwide on November 13, 2026.
