A cross-continental collaboration between Nollywood and the Kenyan tourism industry is set to hit cinemas nationwide as Safari, Produced by Reuben Odanga and Obi Emelonye, the feature is set to deliver a nerve-wrecking drama on self-love, betrayal and justice.
Safari follows the story of a disillusioned senator’s wife from Nigeria who seeks solace in a luxurious getaway to Kenya. But what begins as a peaceful retreat soon turns into a dangerous affair when she becomes entangled with a charming local tour guide accused of murder. Written by Tunde Babalola, a BAFTA-nominated Nigerian writer recognized for his work on The Figurine and October 1. With his knack for weaving suspense and layered human emotion, Babalola delivers a narrative that explores power, desire, and moral complexity against the breathtaking backdrop of East Africa.
Safari is no different, as it follows the story of a Nigerian politician’s wife who travels to Kenya for a luxury safari getaway. But becomes entangled in a shocking scandal after befriending a local beach boy who is accused of murdering a British tourist. And now she must prove her innocence and return home to everything she ran away from.
Directed by Obi Emelonye, the cast includes Osas Ighodaro in the lead role alongside Jidekene Achufusi, Ali Nuhu, Kenneth Aimbani, and Emmanuel Mugo.
The film marks a significant milestone in African cinema, as it became the first public film project to receive funding from the Providus ₦5 billion Creative Fund. Principal photography concluded in August 2024 after an eight-year development and production journey, with filming taking place across scenic locations in Nigeria and Kenya.
Emelonye, is known for acclaimed titles such as Last Flight to Abuja and The Mirror Boy, brings his signature blend of drama and social commentary to Safari. Producer Reuben Odanga, a celebrated Kenyan filmmaker behind Nairobi Half Life and Selina, joins forces with Emelonye to bridge Nollywood and Kenyan storytelling.
Distributed by Blue Pictures, the feature is set to premiere across cinemas nationwide on November 21, 2025.
