Nigerian filmmaker and actor Seyi Akinsola is set to captivate audiences with his latest production, Ogbedun, an epic tale of royal succession, betrayal, and redemption. The film will premiere in cinemas across Nigeria on November 29, 2024.
Directed by Farouk Abisoye (TAMPAN), Ogbedun promises a gripping story of an unacknowledged son, Ogbedun, born to the late Oba Agana through a secret affair with a palace maid. After years spent in exile, Ogbedun returns to his homeland, only to find himself caught in a fierce battle for the throne following the death of a young monarch. The ensuing power struggle between rival families leads to chaos, betrayal, riots, and an unyielding fight for justice.
In the lead role is Nollywood star, Jide Awobona, and is supported by an impressive cast that includes Nollywood icons Jide Kosoko, Antar Laniyan, Akin Lewis, Joke Muyiwa, Miriam Peters, and Babaseun Faseru.
Seyi Akinsola, who also plays a key role in the film, is the executive producer under Astrocraft Productions. Speaking about Ogbedun, Akinsola explained that the film embodies a timeless message: even in the face of overwhelming odds and corruption, good will ultimately triumph. “No matter how many people support wrongdoing, or how well-placed they are, righteousness always wins, even when the victory seems far from reach,” Akinsola shared.
The film’s distribution will be handled by Tribe Nation Theatrical Distribution Limited. Tribe Nation has expressed confidence in Ogbedun, seeing it as a culturally resonant story that will engage viewers with its emotionally charged plot and richly portrayed characters.
With its powerful themes, star-studded cast, and a narrative grounded in royal politics, Ogbedun promises to be a major cinematic event. Be sure to catch this thrilling epic when it arrives in cinemas nationwide on November 29.
