The countdown has begun! Funke Akindele revealed that she is back with another major project; Finding Me. The upcoming film, which she wrote, directed, and produced, is set to premiere exclusively via Amazon Prime Video on March 17, 2025.
Finding Me – A Journey of Self-Discovery
While official plot details are still under wraps, Akindele has described Finding Me as a journey of self-discovery—whether that means finding love, confidence, balance, money, or even trouble! That’s a pretty broad spectrum, but if you know anything about Akindele’s storytelling, there’s bound to be a mix of comedy, drama, and heartfelt moments.
Oh, and speaking of comedy, industry sources hint that Finding Me leans towards the romantic comedy side (ShockNG).
A Star-Studded Cast
If there’s one thing Akindele doesn’t skimp on, it’s bringing big names to the screen. The cast list is stacked with some of Nollywood’s finest, including: Shaffy Bello, Dele Odule, Sharon Ooja, Tina Mba, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Omoni Oboli, Omowunmi Dada, Efe Iwara, Joseph Benjamin, Femi Adebayo Salami, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, and AbdulGafar Abiola (The Cute Abiola).
Funke Akindele’s Signature Marketing Moves
Akindele has mastered the art of building hype, and she’s been dropping Instagram teasers to get people talking. She recently posted transition videos featuring Shaffy Bello, Joseph Benjamin, and Femi Adebayo, showing them switching from formal outfits to Finding Me-branded T-shirts. It’s a simple but effective way to stir curiosity.
Given how she promoted Everybody Loves Jenifa, A Tribe Called Judah, Battle on Buka Street, and Omo Ghetto: The Saga, we can probably expect more engaging content before the film drops.
A Prime Video Exclusive—A Strategic Move?
Unlike her past blockbusters that took over cinemas, Finding Me is heading straight to streaming on Amazon Prime Video. This marks another major partnership between Akindele’s FAAN Productions and a global streaming platform, reflecting the growing shift of Nollywood towards digital distribution.
Akindele is no stranger to owning the December box office, with hits like Battle on Buka Street (December 2022) and A Tribe Called Judah (December 2023) drawing record-breaking numbers. Even Everybody Loves Jenifa followed that trend, hitting cinemas on December 13, 2024. But while December has been a key release window for her, it’s not the only one she has explored.
She’s already tested different release strategies, particularly with streaming. In September 2023, she debuted She Must Be Obeyed on Prime Video, showing a clear interest in the platform beyond cinema releases. More recently, she starred in Reel Love, which premiered in cinemas on February 14, 2025—a move timed perfectly for Valentine’s Day.
Now, Finding Me is taking a similar leap by skipping cinemas entirely for a March 2025 streaming debut. But, just because it’s a Prime Video exclusive…
Will Everyone Be Able to Watch?
In recent times, Nollywood fans in the diaspora have struggled to access Nigerian films on streaming platforms due to regional restrictions. Even big-budget Nollywood exclusives haven’t always been available worldwide on day one.
When Gangs of Lagos premiered as a Prime Video exclusive in April 2023, many international viewers expected seamless access. However, due to regional licensing agreements, some countries did not get the film immediately, despite its widespread marketing as a global release. The same issue arose with Hijack ’93, the 2024 Netflix film based on real-life events. While available in the U.S. and Nigeria, some regions faced delayed access or couldn’t watch it at all.
With Finding Me, the question remains: will it be globally accessible, or will some regions have to wait?
Amazon hasn’t confirmed whether this will be a global release or region-locked, but it’s something to watch out for—especially for fans outside Africa. If the film follows previous trends, it will likely be available in Nigeria, the UK, Canada, and other Nollywood-heavy regions first before expanding further.
