The nominations for the 22nd Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA 2026) were announced on Saturday, 17 October 2026, in a livestream on the AMAA YouTube channel. The AMAAs have celebrated excellence in African cinema since 2005.
Uganda’s Slum Bomber and Kenya’s One Woman, One Bra lead this year’s nominations with 14 each, including nods for Best Film, Best Director and Best Debut Feature. Nwamaka Chikezie’s To Adaego With Love is the most-nominated Nigerian film, with 11 nominations.
Daniel Etim-Effiong’s The Herd is close behind with 10, alongside The Trek (South Africa), Colours of Exile (Côte d’Ivoire) and Ben Made It (South Africa). Etim-Effiong is nominated three times himself, for Best Director, Best Debut Feature and Best Actor in a Leading Role. Colours of Fire follows with nine, while Kaelo Iyizoba’s The Spectacular Death of Prisca, fresh from its Toronto honour, is up for Best Short Film.
