After lighting up the cinema and pulling audiences across the country. Several Nollywood titles are now on the radar of eager fans who can’t wait to re-watch. Or finally catch these films from the comfort of their homes. With streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Kava TV and Circuits TV becoming key players in how audiences consume Nigerian stories. The journey from box office hit to digital release has become one of the most anticipated transitions in the industry.

Some of these movies had a silent run at the cinemas, that is they didn’t gain as much publicity or gross income at the end of their screening. However, based on our review for you, they are indeed splendid and a must-watch for every Nollywood fan. In no particular order, here are Nigerian movies we eagerly anticipate, on streaming platforms:

A Ghetto Love Story

BasketMouth and Miz Vick’s very first feature debut A Ghetto Love Story, caught our attention last year. It started off with a screening at the 2024 African International Film Festival and then went on to cinemas nationwide in November 2024.

Directed by Daniel Oriahi, A Ghetto Love Story delivers a raw, chaotic yet intimate world of Obinna (Akah Nnani) and Stella (Beverly Osu). Whose childhood love and affection gets lunged into the harsh realities of life. And find themselves at a treacherous point, where love tilts to hate. The cast includes: Chioma Akpotha, Wale Ojo, Patience Ozokwor, Efe Irele, Femi Jacobs, Jude Chukwuka, Dorathy Bachor and Nobert Young.

Following our rating last year of a four-point over five-point mark, the feature shone with the production design, which brimmed with authenticity. The cinematography and lighting immersed viewers in the turbulent yet tender world of ghetto love. The film deftly weaves romance, social commentary, and personal ambition, though at times it relies a little too much on dialogue to drive its message. Nevertheless, its emotional depth and finely crafted performances cemented it as one of the most compelling releases of 2024.

At the 2025 African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), A Ghetto Love Story was nominated for the Best Writing category. Which gave it the nod of acceptance needed in the industry.

Wives On Strike: The Uprising

In October 2024, Omoni Oboli brought back the Wives on Strike franchise with the third instalment The Uprising. Hilda Dokubo delivers a commanding performance as Ebiere, a mother unwavering in her pursuit of justice. The cinematography heightens the film’s emotional core, while the story probes themes of maternal love, systemic failure, and the moral ambiguities of justice. Although the occasional comedic detours disrupt the tone, the film stands out as a powerful, thought-provoking, and deeply impactful addition to the series.

The feature crossed the ₦100 million mark in one month of its cinematic run and went on to show across cinemas in UK, Canada, Ireland and 10 Francophone countries. Wives on Strike: The Uprising wasn’t left out of the 2024 AMVCA selection as it was nominated for the Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories.

The cast includes: Chioma Akpotha, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, Segun Arinze, Okey Bakassi, Folaremi Agunbiade, Elvina Ibru and Kalu Ikeagwu. Wives on Strike 3: The Uprising successfully balances emotional resonance and social commentary, delivering a powerful cinematic experience.

Queen Lateefah

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and produced by Wumi Toriola, Queen Lateefah marked Toriola’s launch into the big screen. The feature offers a lively blend of comedy and drama, fusing clever humour with heartfelt storytelling. Centred on Lateefah, a woman leading a double life in her search for acceptance and stability, the film unpacks themes of identity, deception, and social ambition. With witty dialogue and an engaging narrative, it delivers a thoroughly entertaining cinematic experience.

The cast includes: Kunle Remi, Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, Fathia Balogun, Gbubemi Ejeye, Nancy Isime, Brother Shaggi and Aisha Lawal. Queen Latefah started strong at the cinemas with an opening week earning of ₦57 million and closed with ₦357 million. Making it the second-highest-grossing Nollywood release for 2024.

We await a streaming platform drop to have a re-watch of this thrilling project.

Ajosepo

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Kayode Kasum, Ajosepo offered a dysfunctional family rom-com. Released in the cinemas on the 10th of April, 2024, the feature captivates with its sharp writing. It also pays attention to detail in set design, costume choices, and sound design, which enriches the overall viewing experience, while the narrative flows seamlessly, keeping audiences engaged from start to finish. Ajosepo finished strong as the third-highest-grossing Nigerian movie for 2024 with ₦257 million.

Written by Kasum, Dare Olaitan and Stephen Okonkwo, Ajosepo is a moving tale of forgiveness and family. The feature struck a chord with viewers for its relatable themes and emotional depth. Its powerful performances and thought-provoking narrative contributed to its impressive box office performance.

The cast includes Yemi Solade, Deyemi Okanlawon, Bolaji Ogunmola, Ronke Oshodi, Muyiwa Ademola, Tomike Adeoye, Mike Afolarin, Mercy Aigbe, Bisola Aiyeola, Timini Egbuson, Lizzy Jay and Kanaga Jnr

Thin Line

Following Mercy Aigbe’s big screen debut in 2023 with Ada Omo Daddy, the filmmaker returned to the cinema in December 2024 with Thin Line.

Directed by Akay Mason, the story takes viewers on a tense ride through guilt, morality, and the search for redemption. The film captivates with its thoughtful use of lighting and clever symbolic choices that add layers to the narrative. While its exploration of faith feels surface-level at times, the film’s pacing and emotional beats keep audiences engaged. It’s a thoughtful addition to Nollywood’s growing catalogue of suspense-driven stories, with moments that linger long after viewing.

Thin Line features Uzor Arukwe, Nkechi Blessing, Uche Montana, Mercy Aigbe, Iyabo Ojo, Ibrahim Yekini, Adeniyi Johnson and Jaiye Kuti.

The Nollywood feature is set to commence Netflix streaming on October 1, 2025.

Farmer’s Bride

Co-directed by Jack’enneth Opukeme and Adebayo Tijani, Farmer’s Bride blends emotional storytelling with rich cultural representation. The film explores forbidden love, societal pressure, and the battle for personal freedom with visual flair and a soundtrack that heightens every emotional beat. While its pacing has moments of inconsistency, the second act shines with a balance of tension and vulnerability.

The cast includes Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Efe Irele, Femi Branch, Wunmi Toriola and Mercy Aigbe. It was nominated at the AMVCA this year for Best Movie, Best Lead Actress, Best Art Direction, Best Make-up, and Best Supporting Actress which it won.

Farmer’s Bride closed its cinematic run as the seventh highest-grossing Nollywood movie for 2024 with ₦164 million.

Fans can rest easy as October 17th has been announced as its Netflix release date.

Aburo

Released in May 2024, Aburo features Efa Iwara, Peju Ogunmola, Yemi Cregx, Darasimi Nadi, Wunmi Toriola, Toni Tones and Maleek Sanni. Directed by Yemi Morafa Aburo tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a troubled ex-athlete and a spirited street urchin, anchored by standout performances from Maleek Sani, Wumi Toriola, and Charles Inojie.

The film’s cinematography and use of lighting create striking visual moments that complement its emotional narrative. While some subplots feel underdeveloped and the romantic arc lacks authenticity,.

As we eagerly await the transition of these Nollywood films from the big screen to our devices, one thing is certain: the excitement isn’t over. Whether you missed them at the cinemas or simply want to relive the magic, their streaming debuts promise to keep Nigerian cinema alive in our living rooms.
