It’s the season of love. While there are new movies to watch, we will be throwing it back to our favourite Nollywood rom-coms to set the tone for Valentine’s Day.

Phone swap

This movie has such a high rewatch value. You can watch it over and over again. Two strangers swap phones, live each other’s lives, and end up falling in love. The character development and arc in this movie are one reason it’s a forever classic. It stars Wale Ojo and Nse Ikpe-Etim.

Royal Hibiscus Hotel 

A Nigerian chef based in London returns to her birth country and has to deal with her meddling matchmaker mother and the daunting task of reviving her family’s dilapidated hotel. To her annoyance, she soon learns that the man she loves is the one planning to buy the hotel. The lead actors are Zainab Balogun and Kenneth Okolie. 

Isoken

The Osayande family is concerned about Isoken, a successful, beautiful, and unmarried woman at 34. Because of societal expectations, her mother matches her with Osaze, an ideal Edo man. However, Isoken unexpectedly falls for Kevin, who doesn’t fit the cultural mold as he is white. Dakore Egbuson plays a lead role.

Breaded Life

What happens when a spoiled rich kid and an illiterate bread seller live together? This movie explores how love can change even the worst people. The onscreen chemistry between Timini Egbuson and Bimbo Ademoye is palatable.

Tango with Me

This classic movie starring Genevieve Nnaji and Joseph Benjamin is about a woman who gets raped on her wedding night while her husband watches. They both try to seek healing and deal with the past as the story unfolds.

These nollywood rom-coms will make your heart swoon, entertain, and show how powerful love is. Watch them and you’ll surely be back to thank me later.
