5 Nollywood Movies You Should See this February

Love is the air – whether you like it or not and Nollywood has always loved love. If you are keen on getting booed up and watching nollywood movies this month, here are 5 new nollywood movies you should see.

Dead Serious

Produced by David Rukeme, Dead Serious unravels the love dynamics between Sharon Ooja and Sabinus.

Sharon Ooja’s father, portrayed by veteran actor Nkem Owoh, disapproves of Sabinus due to his financial status. Yet, this is not the sole obstacle, as the father’s affluent and youthful boss, played by Deyemi Okanlawon, starts expressing interest in Ooja, adding another layer of complexity to Sabinus’ pursuit of love.

Directed by Moses Inwang and produced by David Rukeme, other members of cast includes Warri Girl, Lillian Afegbai, Funky Mallam, Emem Inwang and Ryonne Razaq.

Dead Serious is scheduled for a nationwide cinema release on February 9, 2024.

The Silent Intruder

This Pere Egbi led feature film revolves around a couple played by Uche Montana and Onyekachi Nnochiri on the verge of separation due to sexual problems. The wife doesn’t give up on the problem and is willing to go to extreme lengths to get things on the right track. However, the situation gets messier when the therapist they approach for help desires the wife at all costs.

Directed by Uyoyou Adia, other cast members include fellow BBNaija alumnus Venita Akpofure, Pere Egbi, Lucy Francesca Ameh, Dotun Oloniyo and Lydia Achebe.

The Silent Intruder will debut across cinemas nationwide on February 9, 2024.

All is Fair In Love

The feature-length movie centres around two Nigerian business partners (lDeyemi Okanlawon and Timini Egbuson) and friends who fall madly in love with the same woman and go head-to-head to have a relationship with her.

Produced by Okanlawon, Esse Akwawa and Gloria Obichukwu in collaboration with Film One Studios, Accelerate TV and Covenant Entertainment, the cast includes Samuels, Ireti Doyle, Juliet Ibrahim,Adedimeji Lateef, Beauty Tukura, Venita Akpofure, Kunle Bamtefa, Gbubemi Ejeye, Kenzy Udosen, Oprah Okereke and Timilehin Ojeola.

All’s Fair in Love will debut at the cinemas on February 14, 2024.

Meeting Funmi’s Parents

In Kevin Apaa‘s romantic drama, Funmi (Omowunmi Dada), returns home from the US with her fiancé (Ramon Thomson) to visit her parents in Nigeria. But Funmi’s father disapproves of their love and plans to settle down. The situation is further complicated by Funmi’s cheating ex-boyfriend (Timini Egbuson) who is interested in coming in between the union to win her back.

Executively produced by Micheal Ademola Oke, alongside Suleiman Bolaji as the co-producer under the Belmont Pictures umbrella, principal photography reportedly wrapped up in September 2022.

The cast includes Omowunmi Dada and Timini Egbuson playing lead roles. Roman Thomson, Akin Lewis, Tina Mba, Taiwo Ajayi-Lycet, Sophie Alakija, Emmanuel Ikubese, Alvin Abayomi, Rotimi Adelegan, Samuel Perry (Broda Shaggi), Sophia Chisom (Soso), and cameo appearances from Femi Durojaiye, Saka Hafiz Oyetoro and Tiago Gom.

One Too Many

One Too Many  premiered at AFRIFF in 2022 and went silent in 2023. Directed by Kayode Kasum, One Too Many stars Chimezie Imo, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Rachel Oniga and Jide Kosoko. Convinced of her son’s innocence after he is charged with murder, a woman fights for his freedom against a corrupt and unjust system. One Too Many will be available on Netflix.

Orisa

Initially released across cinemas nationwide on July 31, 2023, Orisa will commence streaming on Prime Video on February 2, 2024.

Produced and directed by Odunlade Adekola, the Yoruba epic film is set in an ancient Yoruba city. The titular Orisa, who is played by Adekola, is a powerful warrior who allies himself with a gang of highly skilled warriors, their nefarious activities posing a problem for the king and the other criminal gangs in the city. A mission goes wrong and a dark secret comes to light which threatens to spell doom for Orisa and his claque of warriors.

The cast includes Femi Adebayo, Shaffy Bello, Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Muyiwa Ademola, and Eniola Ajao.

Last Call

Produced by Shola Thompson and Lanre ‘Rugae’ Awolokun, the plot revolves around Hauwa, played by Zainab Balogun, an established on-air personality and influencer who is about to sign out for the last time ever on her famous radio show.

Unfortunately, her farewell live phone-in call puts her in a dangerous conversation with a psychotic and mysterious caller who has kidnapped her mother. If she plans to see her mother alive ever again, she must reveal her deepest and darkest secrets to her listeners live on air.

The cast also includes Valentine Ohu, Seun Ajayi, Bimbo Oshin and Obi Maduegbuna.

Last Call will premiere across cinemas nationwide on February 2, 2024.

Giannis: The Marvelous Journey

Greek-Nigerian basketball star, Giannis Antetokounmpo will release a documentary film on Prime Video on February 19, 2024.

Giannis: The Marvelous Journey unravels Antetokounmpo’s path from an impoverished childhood in Greece as a Nigerian immigrant to fame as a professional basketball player. The documentary provides a close insight into the life of the two-time league MVP and the incredible track record that has earned him the Finals MVP award.
