The movie portrays battle scenes and is dramatized using actual battlefield equipment in communities such as the Niger Delta, Johannesburg, and London.
The story delves into the conflict surrounding oil exploration in the Niger Delta, highlighting the significant amount taken from the people and the minimal benefits provided to them. The Creek takes audiences into the creeks and waterways of the Niger Delta, exploring how the oil industry affects local communities. It highlights the difficult choices that indigenous people must make in their fight for their rights, their lives, and their sources of livelihood.
The film features a mix of Nollywood veterans and newer faces, including Chinwe Owoh, Sam Dede, Charles Inojie, Bucci Franklin, Sunshine Rosman, Jimmy Jean-Louis, and Kelechi Udegbe.
The movie is set against the backdrop of the pain, neglect, suffering, environmental struggles, and exploitation of the people, resources, and lands from where Nigeria derives much of its national wealth.
The Creek is one of the most ambitious African productions to date. Filmed in Nigeria and South Africa, it features a multinational cast and crew of over 550 members. Additionally, the film stars real-life militants from the Niger Delta, providing vibrant authenticity and gritty realism to the production.
