
Son of the Soil, directed by Chee Keong Cheung, is set to premiere on Netflix across Africa on March 1st after an Impressive run at international film festivals and in cinemas.
The film, which features Nollywood veterans such as Patience Ozokwo, Ireti Doyle, and Razaq Adoti, marks a significant step in African storytelling on the global stage.
Son of the Soil is a British Nigerian co-production, featuring cinematography by Jack Thompson Roylance and music composed by Tolu Obanro. It was shot in Lagos, highlighting the city’s dynamic landscape. This all together helped to enhance the film’s emotional depth and action sequences.
The story follows Zion Ladejo, a former Nigerian Special Operations paratrooper who returns home after a personal tragedy and becomes entangled with dangerous criminal networks. The story mixes character drama with action set pieces.
Razaq Adoti takes the lead in this emotional and action-packed sequence, drawing on his international experience from previous roles in major productions. The ensemble cast also features Taye Arimoro, Sunshine Rosman, Damilola Ogunsi, Philip Asaya, Emeka Golden, Sharon Rotimi, and Ijelu Folajimi who won an award for best Nollywood Child actor and also brought fresh energy to the Project.
Distributed by Nile Entertainment, Son of the Soil previously premiered at the 34th Pan African Film Festival, where it attracted attention for its ambitious action style and cross-cultural production, and with its Netflix premiere, it signals the continued growth of African action cinema and reinforces another major expanding footprint in the global entertainment industry.
