
The official trailer for Jide Kosoko’s Eleko (Oba Esugbayi), Nollywood’s first full-length historical biopic has been released. Produced by the prestigious Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko under his emblem, Jide Kosoko Film Presentation, and directed by three accomplished filmmakers, Adebayo Tijani, Babatunde Kosoko, and Tunde Olaoye, whose combined expertise promises to deliver a visually stunning and emotionally gripping narrative.
The film is set in the early 20th century, during the reign of Oba Esugbayi Eleko of Lagos, a revered monarch remembered for his bold resistance against British Colonial domination. The film positions itself as a cultural reawakening, telling one of Lagos most defining historical chapters: the story of Oba Esugbayi and colonial Lagos.
At the center of the film is the compelling story of Oba Esugbayi Eleko, a Lagos monarch who firmly opposed colonial interference in the governance and traditions of his people. His resistance put him at odds with British authorities, leading to intense political struggles and eventual exile. This ultimately established his enduring legacy as a symbol of pride and sovereignty for the Yoruba people and African in general.
Eleko (Oba Esugbayi) stars Femi Branch, Kosoko, Yemi Solade, Dele Odule, Bidemi Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, Gabriel Afolayan, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Rotimi Salami, Broda Shaggi, among others, to tell a story that blends history, drama, and cultural heritage.
