Netflix has secured the distribution rights for Tokunbo, an upcoming crime thriller directed by Ramsey Nouah. The film marks Nouah’s third directorial project, following his successful works Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story (2020) and Living in Bondage: Breaking Free (2019).
Tokunbo centers on the intense journey of an ex-car smuggler who must race against time to save a kidnapped girl. The narrative delves into critical issues in Nigeria, such as kidnapping, political corruption, and the fight for survival, presenting a gritty portrayal of the nation’s darker side.
The film boasts an impressive cast, including Gideon Okeke in the lead role, alongside Adunni Ade, Tosin Adeyemi, child actress Darasimi Nnadi, and Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi. Produced by Chris Odeh and co-produced by Joy Odiete, Tokunbo also features Mohammed Attah as the Director of Photography, with principal photography completed in November 2022.
This project continues the collaboration between Ramsey Nouah and producer Chris Odeh, known for their previous work together.
Tokunbo heads to Netflix on August 23, 2024.
