The Nollywood Romantic Comedy On Different Grounds, produced and co-written by Nicolette Ndigwe-Kalu. This movie production is a rare cultural crossover between two of the world’s biggest film industries, brought to life by a richly diverse global cast.
Speaking in an Interview, Nicolette stated:
The movie, on different grounds, is my way of fostering cultural cohesion through art and letting the world know that we are all more alike than we are different. She further stated that it is going to be one that every age and culture will enjoy, as well as showcase the beauty of a proper Nigerian wedding.
The plot of the movie centres on a prominent Nigerian family; the couple, who are divorced, are forced to reunite to plan their daughter’s wedding. The story focuses on the bringing together of two different families, the Fregenes and Ojeligbos, as they send off their daughter, Aurora, to her new family. The film explores the themes of love, sacrifices, and Family relationships.
Directed by Mildred Okwo, and co-written by Ink and Joy Oyediya, the family drama stars both veteran and young actors from Nigeria, USA, Ghana and India.
In explaining her choice of director, Ndigwe-Kalu said:
There aren’t many directors like her who would understand the kind of story I wanted to tell and bring the nuanced traditional African heart of it to life.
The casts include Ms. Earth USA 2020, Abena Akuaba, Bollywood superstar Vineet Raina, and veteran Nimesh Diliprai. A few of the Nollywood stars who took part in this project are Ifeanyi Kalu, Uche Montana, Nkem Owo, Jennifer Eliogu, Bamike Olawunmi, Fedekemi Olumide, Aproko Doctor, and the Mbadiwe Twins
Nollywood Rom-com On Different Grounds, which blends African and Indian storytelling, cultures, and cinematic traditions, will be distributed by Cinemax.
