A Platform for Young Filmmakers
Organised by OGWA Studios in collaboration with the British Council, Games Night with Prosper Light: Big Screen Edition expands the studio’s mission of nurturing creative talent and connecting young audiences to African stories.
According to the organisers, the event will include interactive filmmaker sessions, brand showcases, games activities, and networking opportunities, all structured to foster cultural exchange and industry collaboration.
The showcase follows earlier Games Night editions, known for blending entertainment with mentorship and audience engagement. This “Big Screen” version marks the initiative’s evolution into a film-centred experience spotlighting cinematic storytelling.
Short Films Premiering
Zoe
Zoe is an intimate short film from writer-director Prosper Light, produced by OGWA Studios. The story follows a young girl whose battle with a terminal illness tests the strength of her family and their faith. Set around Easter, the film uses its timing to explore ideas of rebirth, love, and hope beyond suffering.
A Rainbow for Christmas
A Rainbow for Christmas features Prosper Light and Raphael Niyi in leading roles. The short drama follows Ezra, a young man who chooses Christmas Eve to come out to his family. Written and directed under OGWA Studios, the five-minute film examines identity, truth and family relationships within the context of seasonal celebrations. According to Prosper Light, who also serves as creative producer, the film focuses on the emotional intersection between fear, freedom and acceptance.
Aladi
Written by Prosper Light and Queen Adakole Stephen, Aladi addresses domestic violence and the effects of silence in abusive situations. The film centres on a woman’s struggle to protect her children while confronting the consequences of fear and inaction. The story is dedicated to women who have experienced violence in their homes and aims to highlight the importance of speaking out against abuse.
The Sun’s Glory
Written by Omokehinde Olateju and Prosper Light, returns for a special screening following its earlier release. The film follows Tope Willem, a young boy with albinism who faces social rejection while developing a passion for writing. The narrative focuses on the Willem family and examines issues of prejudice, acceptance and visibility. Prosper Light, Damilola Ogunsi and EyiyemiOlivia Rogbinyin feature in principal roles.
A Growing Creative Community
The Games Night platform has become a regular meeting point for filmmakers, producers, and audiences interested in authentic African cinema. Past editions have attracted more than 300 live attendees and over 20,000 online viewers, making it one of the fastest-growing grassroots film events in Nigeria.
Through the British Council’s partnership, this edition reinforces cross-cultural collaboration and the development of Nigeria’s short film ecosystem, an area increasingly recognised at international festivals and streaming platforms.
