In the Shadows of Good Fortune, directed and written by Babatunde Apalowo and produced by Kemi Lala Akindoju, has been selected for the prestigious post-production segment of the 7th Atlas Workshops at the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM). This selection places the film among a select group receiving support to reach completion at the event, set to run from 1 to 5 December 2024.
Apalowo and Akindoju’s collaboration has sparked excitement, as both have gained recognition for their recent achievements: Apalowo’s All the Colours of the World Are Between Black and White received critical acclaim across the international festival circuit, and Akindoju has produced popular titles including Gangs of Lagos and The Black Book. The production also features contributions from Nkechi Okere, Jamiu Shoyode, and Oludara Egerton-Shyngle, underscoring the strong creative team behind the project.
The Atlas Workshops, established in 2018, provides a platform to emerging filmmakers from Africa and the Arab world, offering mentorship and international exposure. This year’s programme received over 300 applications from 13 countries, with In the Shadows of Good Fortune among the 10 films in production or post-production and 17 projects in development selected for inclusion.
Esteemed filmmaker Jeff Nichols, known for The Bikeriders, will be mentoring participants, bringing invaluable insights to this year’s lineup.
The selection of In the Shadows of Good Fortune highlights the expanding impact of our cinema on the global stage. Many films that have passed through the Atlas Workshops have gone on to achieve significant success at major festivals, raising anticipation for more details about the film’s plot and cast in the coming weeks.
