Nollywood’s latest blockbuster, Gingerrr, has stormed the Nigerian box office with an impressive ₦82.6 million haul in its opening week, setting a new record for the highest-grossing non-festive September release of all time. And also the top Nollywood opening weekend of September 2025 and film of the week at the Nigerian box office.
The film, which premiered in cinemas nationwide on September 25, 2025, represents a landmark project in Nollywood’s evolving collaboration model. Four of the industry’s leading actors, Wunmi Toriola, KieKie, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Bisola Aiyeola, came together not only to headline the film but also to serve as executive producers. This joint venture marks one of the most high-profile examples of actor-driven financing in Nigeria’s film sector, signaling a shift in how movies are funded and produced. The marketing strategy has also taken the internet by storm, with the producers even holding premieres in two cities.
Directed by Yemi “Filmboy” Morafa, Gingerrr features an ensemble cast that combines established Nollywood heavyweights with rising stars. Alongside the four lead actors, the film stars Shaffy Bello, Odunlade Adekola, Adedimeji Lateef, Timini Egbuson, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Shammah Agah, Adebowale Adedayo, Kamo, and Emeka Okoye. The star power helped draw audiences in droves, contributing significantly to its record-breaking performance.
Shot at the world-class Ogidi Studios, with cinematography by Mide Omind, Gingerrr has been praised for its polished visuals and engaging storytelling. Distribution is handled by Cinemax.
