FilmOne’s period thriller Farmer’s Bride is set to debut on Netflix on October 17, 2025, following its successful cinema release last year.
Set in 1980s Ibadan, the film follows Odun (Femi Branch), a wealthy yet reclusive farmer who finds unexpected companionship in Funmi (Gbubemi Ejeye), a young woman from a nearby village. Their bond is soon shattered when Odun’s nephew Femi (Tobi Bakre) and Funmi conspire against him, leading to his untimely death. But what begins as a calculated plot spirals into terror as the vengeful spirit of the farmer returns to haunt them.
Farmer’s Bride first hit Nigerian cinemas on September 27, 2024, grossed ₦154 million at the box office. Its streaming release trails FilmOne’s growing presence in the production space, following its debut in original productions with Adire, directed by Adeoluwa Owu. Farmer’s Bride is the second project under FilmOne Studios, the company’s in-house production arm dedicated to producing fresh and innovative titles.
The star-studded ensemble includes Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Efe Irele, Mercy Aigbe, Wunmi Toriola, and Femi Branch. Notably, Mercy Aigbe’s performance earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
With its gripping storyline, strong performances, and FilmOne’s ambition to expand Nollywood’s global reach, Farmer’s Bride is poised to attract a new wave of audiences when it lands on Netflix.
