
Faithia Balogun Williams’ new production; Efunroye – The Unicorn portrays the life and influence of Efunroye Tinubu, a prominent 19th century Yoruba merchant and powerbroker who played a major role in Lagos politics and commerce.
The Film follows the rise of a young girl born near Abeokuta who learns the tradecraft of her mother and grandmother, grows into a resourceful, formidable Yoruba woman and merchant, and builds power through trade, politics, and alliances. The movie will tell the core story of Efunroye’s journey from market seller to influential kingmaker. The film, set in pre-colonial and early colonial Yoruba lands celebrate not only the history of the Yoruba people but also the legacy and recognition of women in leadership.
The lead character of Efunroye Tinubu is portrayed by Faithia Williams, who is also doubles as a film producer. A few supporting casts shown in promotional materials include Mercy Aigbe, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Yekini, Saidi Balogun, Taiwo Hassan, Ibrahim Chatta, Layi Wasabi, Eniola Ajao, Femi Branch, and Femi Adebayo, among others. Full character assignments and a complete cast list are not yet published, but the movie trailer suggests a mix of Yoruba film veterans and rising stars.
Efunroye – The Unicorn premieres on May 1st, 2026, in Cinemas Nationwide. The movie is distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.
