In an exclusive interview with Variety, media mogul Mo Abudu reveals new details about the upcoming launch of EbonyLife on Plus. The highly anticipated streaming platform will have a soft launch in September 2025.

Designed as a membership-based service, EbonyLife on Plus will offer a broad slate of content. Which would include films, series, talk shows, and lifestyle programming from across Africa. The platform also promises affordable pricing, especially for local audiences. Nigeria-based subscribers can expect a yearly rate between ₦15,000 and ₦18,000, while international users will pay $30 annually.

The streaming library will debut with a mix of new and existing titles. The lineup includes: Hallelujah – a family drama set within a powerful Lagos church, starring Uzor Arukwe and Bolaji Ogunmola. An untitled drama led by Omoni Oboli, portraying a media personality whose seemingly perfect life begins to fall apart. Additional projects featuring Nancy Isime, Daniel Effiong, and Uche Jombo.

Subscribers will also gain access to EbonyLife’s existing catalogue. As well as curated selection of Nollywood Gold classics, and select Sony Pictures titles that highlight Black talent globally. The platform also plans to roll out original scripted content with modest budgets and locally grounded settings.

My primary focus now is on building a thriving ecosystem — one that encompasses production, distribution, and capacity building across Africa and the diaspora,” said Abudu.

She further expressed the success of Ebony Life’s most recent body of work, Baby Farm. “Our co-production Baby Farm has been extremely successful in Africa and Netflix then decided to distribute it to English-speaking countries, where it performed exceptionally. Top 10 Netflix charts in key markets including the U.K., U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines, among others. That tells you there is a big market and that people are ready to listen to our stories,” she said. As a result, Baby Farm will also stream on EbonyLife On Plus, however, for the audience, outside of Africa.

Beyond EbonyLife on Plus, Abudu continues to expand her global partnerships. She is currently developing projects with major collaborators including Idris Elba, Starz, Lionsgate, Westbrook Studios, and IFC. The award-winning filmmaker continues to cement her role as a leading force in African media, creating a global stage for the continent’s rich diversity, creative depth, and untold stories.
