The society has begun distributing the funds received, which is a part of the Copyright Levy Scheme of the Audio-visual Rights Society. This distribution follows the approved framework and aligns with its mandate as Nigeria’s collective management organization for audiovisual works.
The society acknowledges the collaborative efforts of the relevant government agencies in facilitating the release of the funds. AVRS also expresses its profound appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria for its commitment to strengthening the creative economy. They remain committed to transparency, accountability, and fair royalty distribution to their members.
The Chairman of AVRS, Mr Mahmood Ali-Balogun, describes the development process:
As a significant milestone in the continued recognition of creators’ rights and remuneration under Nigeria’s Copyright System, he also noted that the copyright levy represents a legitimate compensation due to creators and rightsholders for the private copying of their works.
The AVRS, since its creation and registration in 2013, remains resolute in ensuring that creators receive fair compensation for the use of their works. AVRS remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the equitable distribution of royalties to its members.
